Panificio Perrone's story began in the Sassi of Matera, when Nicola Perrone started baking the neighborhood families' dough in his wood-fired oven. Since then, five generations have kept alive the same bond between bread, family and city.
At Panificio Perrone, craftsmanship is not a slogan but a daily way of working. It takes shape in careful gestures, time allowed for each step, selected flours, sourdough starter and skilled hands guiding every stage of breadmaking.
Panificio Perrone is located at Via Dante Alighieri 96 in Matera. This is where Matera Bread and traditional baked goods are made every day.
The history of Matera Bread is intertwined with the Sassi, wood-fired ovens and the families who once made their dough at home. It is a story of bread, community, rural work and artisan tradition.
Matera's cuisine grew from simple ingredients and an old farming culture. Bread, legumes, vegetables, cruschi peppers and baked goods tell the story of a region that turns simplicity into distinctive, authentic flavors.
